Three Immersive Technology Trends To Look At In 2020Immersive technologies such as AR and VR are slowly blurring the boundaries between reality and fiction, to create a whole new world. These technologies are attracting large scale investments from business owners cutting across industry verticals. According to a report by Allied Market Research, the global AR and VR market is expected to become USD 571.42 billion by 2025, registering a CAGR of 63.3 percent. Proliferation of smart phones and connected devices in various business verticals coupled with booming gaming industry is contributing to the growth of the market.  “I do think that a significant portion of the population of developed countries, and eventually all countries, will have AR experiences every day, almost like eating three meals a day,” opines Tim Cook, Chief Executive Officer of Apple. As immersive technologies are witnessing wide adoption across various industries, let us have a look at some of the latest trends that are expected to impact the future of these technologies:

Integration of AR and VR with Artificial Intelligence

Integrating cognitive capabilities into the AR and VR devices helps to enhance the experience of the user. Computer vision by enabling computers to recognize objects that are seen through camera plays a major role in the operations of AR devices to identify and differentiate different objects. Another important application of AI in AR is the machine learning powered microscope that helps to identify cancer tumours. Integration of AI with VR in the gaming has made the computer-controlled players more reactive giving the gamers a tough time.

Virtual Environments for Better Learning Experiences

AR and VR in combination with other digital technologies are revolutionising the education sector to provide engaging learning experiences to the students.  The immersive technologies help teachers to create virtual training environments, enabling them to reach out to the students in a better way that is more practical.  Microsoft HoloLens, a mixed reality device is being used by the US army in the military trainings to provide their soldiers with real-time data and experiences.

AR- Shaping the Future of Shopping

Today at a time when e-commerce businesses are witnessing the problems of massive product returns, Augmented Reality can help them reduce the product returns by offering engaging experiences to the consumers. It also enables consumers to have a detailed look of the products with 3-D experiences before buying an item, helping them to make a better choice.
